makeup video tutorials

I miss Liz already. So I’ve decided to honor her beauty and work by writing a few posts about her. To commemorate her beauty, I’m posting this fantastic makeup tutorial video by UK makeup artist Samantha Chapman aka pixiwoo on Youtube. I’d say this is probably an early 1960s look of Ms. Taylor’s.

One of my favorite youtube makeup gurus, Kandee Johnson, who is actually a print and tv makeup artist working in Los Angeles, shows us how to do “fall makeup” or actually a pin-up makeup look on her mother (do they look like twins or what!?) It’s not actually a classic pin-up look, but more modern, as in she mixes pink and red for the lip instead of just a classic red on the lip. Her mom has an olive skin tone so this is a great pin-up makeup tutorial for mature women with olive skin!

These are the products Kandee the makeup artist used for this pin-up makeup look for mature women:

LIQUID FOUNDATION
Make-Up Forever HD Foundation in #170 Caramel (used to contour and add warmth)
CREAM FOUNDATION
COVER FX CREAM FOUNDATION in M70 (used as a concealer)

FACE POWDER:
CHEEK COLOR:
Cream Blush in Posey from MAC Cosmetics
POWDER BLUSH
Angel from MAC Cosmetics, a light matte pink
Peaches ‘n Pink from MAC Cosmetics
Mocha from MAC
EYES:
Soft Ochre Paint Pot from MAC Cosmetics
SHADOWS:
Brulee eyeshadow from MAC Cosmetics
Cork & Charcoal Brown eyeshadows from MAC Cosmetics
EYELINER:
I used Black Black (it’s a pro color from MAC Cosmetics or you can use any cream/gel black liner) and an angled brush. I also really like Aqua Black from Makeup Forever that is totally water-proof!
Carbon from MAC Cosmetics
LASHES:
EYEBROWS:
Charcoal Brown eye shadow (or you could use Coquette) from MAC (Kandee says: “the darker the eyebrows, the younger you look!)
LIPS:
Hot Pink lipliner from Make-Up Forever in 16C Fuschia
Cherry Red lipliner from MAC Cosmetics

A wonderful vintage makeup tutorial from the 1940′s.
Archive Tutorial Film presented by Miss Ratherly Stern.
The ideal facial contour is supposed to be the oval. But some of us have round faces, square faces or long faces. What can we do to make our faces appear more oval?

1. Round Faces:
Don’t wear too high a neck line. It shortens the neck and increases the effect of roundness!
Hair well off the forehead and flat against the temple !
Thin lipsticks, correctly applied to follow the natural mouthline !
A V neck completes the picture and gives the impression of a little more neck length to give the impression of an oval face!

2. Square Faces:
Keep away from haircuts that hang in vertical lines near the side of the face and jawline in.This over emphasizes the squareness of the jaw.Avoid straight horizontal lines near the face – like thin lips / round or high horizontal necks.
Fill out the lower lip with your lipstick.
Hair should fall in curves around the jawline.
Wear a V neck line to pull the attention down from jaw.

3. The Long / Narrow Face:
Don’t wear V necks – This adds to the impression of length.
Avoid Piled up high hair on top of head as this also adds to the length of the face.
Hair should be off the top if the head and fluffed out at the sides to give the thin face added width.
Finally a high neck line or choker distracts from the long neck ! Voila !

The fashion at this years V-festival certainly didn’t disappoint, some of our favourite fashionista’s included Doctor Who star Karen Gillan, who looked stunning in a pair of diamond printed tights and monochrome outfit. Gossip Girl star and The Pretty Reckless front-woman Taylor Momsen rocked her signature look of sexy stockings and suspenders, teaming them with a studded corset (perhaps taking the underwear as outerwear look a bit too far?!). Alexandra Burke showed us how to work lace shorts, by wearing them peeking out from under a jumper dress. But the star of the show? Henry Holland’s Chain Suspender Tights of course! These ladies are my favorite makeup gurus. They’re sisters and both are professional make up artists.

However, not everyone has their hair color or skin tone, so here are some other classic pin up style makeup videos that feature women with different skin tones and hair color and even one for asian eyes!
