I recently purchased a “corset” (against my better judgement.. haha) from TinyDeal. This website specializes in cheap everything direct from China at wholesale prices. I bought a “corset” for around $17 (with free int’l shipping) and it arrived in less than two weeks. I was shocked it came so fast, usually packages coming from China take at least 3 weeks before they arrive. I paid with Paypal, just in case.

This is what it looks like:

Floral Print Women Bustier Panty Set
$18.07

I read as many reviews as I could find (most of them in other languages, so I had to use google translate) and all of the customers were happy with their purchases. This photo, by the way, is a complete rip-off of What Katie Did‘s Lace Laurie Corset. The corset isn’t the same quality AT ALL and not to be confused with the quality of What Katie Did. I just bought it because I liked the look.

This is what this cheap imitation looks like:

And this is what it looks like on me:

(Sorry for the bad quality photos, I took these with my camera phone and lightened them a bit.)

Do you see how the busk is rigid and the buttons point at a strange angle? That’s not because the size is wrong but because of the cheap materials used. The metal “buttons” are very cheap and angle out. On a real corset, that’s meant to be worn and conform to the body, this would not happen. The busk would stay closed and not overlap, gap or be mismatched. This cheap corset comes with two sets of ribbon laces in the back which I immediately switched out to heavy duty ones meant for real corsets.

Since I have a natural hourglass figure, I could easily lace down at least 4 inches. That’s not possible with this “corset”, no matter how much breaking in I do. I don’t believe this would conform to my shape due to the cheap material. That said, I do recommend this cheap corset for a few things:

Recommended use

  • Costume parties
  • Boudoir wowing
  • Burlesque acts
  • Pin Up Shoots
  • Clubbing

Not recommended for

  • Tightlacing (or any sort of reduction)
  • Those looking for a real corset
  • What Katie Did employees? LOL

So all in all, I spent less than $20 bucks and got myself a bustier that looks nice and nothing more. To be honest, I think I’ll order a few more as they’re so cheap, I don’t have much to lose. I honestly expected a lot worse (loose threads, cheaper fabric, even cheaper plastic boning) but it’s better than what I expected, for sure. Thanks for reading!

I admit my opinion isn’t really a popular one and I thought about it a lot before writing this review. Bettie Page clothing has some gorgeous designs (and some that make me want to give them the side-eye) but they’re not one of my favorite vintage inspired clothing brands. I’ve only made one order from them (a skirt). Here’s why:

1. Ridiculous Prices
2. Bad Quality Fabrics
3. Weird Sizing

I have nothing against Bettie Page Clothing, I just wasn’t thrilled with my first (and only) purchase. I will say that their shipping service was quick and easy though.

Ridiculous Prices

I understand vintage inspired clothing is a niche market. Therefore, retail prices will reflect that. However, I think they overcharge for what you get. And even with a huge discount, (sometimes up to 70% off) I still haven’t been swayed to make another purchase.

Bad Quality Fabrics

It wasn’t horrible costume-store quality, but I expected much better than what I received. The fabric felt kinda cheap, not what I expected for a $50+ skirt! Since my first order, I now look at their catalog with a bit more thought. And that thought is “I bet that fabric is the cheapest ever. Would I still buy it at that price?”

Weird Sizing

I read some other reviews of Bettie Page Clothing and was advised to size up – TWICE. I believe they only go up to a size 4XL so if you’re a 2XL (a size US 14/16?) you’re SOL with most things on the site. I notice that the larger sizes tend to sell out twice as fast. Good luck, ladies.

Maybe that particular skirt wasn’t up to snuff, but I doubt I’ll be placing any more orders to find out if it was just a one time thing.

Mitsouko was created by Jacques Guerlain in 1919. The creation of Mitsouko was inspired by the heroine of Claude Farrere’s novel ‘La bataille’, a story of an impossible love between Mitsouko, the wife of Japanese Admiral Togo, and a British officer. The story takes place in 1905, during the war between Russia and Japan. Both men went to war, and Mitsouko, hiding her feelings with dignity, waits for the outcome of the battle to discover which of the two men will come back to her and be her companion.

Mitsouko is one of the well known aromas of chypre olfactory group with cool top notes and oak moss in the base. But it also has a note of a juicy peach, which gives a clear and quite gourmand nuance. It features bergamot, peach, jasmine, may rose, spices (cinnamon), oak moss, vetiver and wood.

The Eau de Toilette is much sharper, while Eau de Perfume is warmer and nicer. The full richness of the composition, however, is revealed only in the perfume concentration.

Mitsouko eau de parfum, the Guerlain scent that is unique, original and must be sampled by everyone who enjoys fragrance.

My short review

I was so excited to get my hands on a small sample vial of Mitsouko EDP. The notes in this vintage fragrance sounded fascinating and I’m a big fan of chypres. On me it smells warm, herbal and a bit dirty. The peach in it is not sweet at all, but a dry, subtle peach. I like the oakmoss base but unfortunately, at least on me, it smells like my hair if I didn’t wash it for a week. That realization was sort of funny to me because just the week before I received my order I thought to myself “Hey, it’d be super interesting if someone made a perfume that smelled like unwashed hair!”. I like that scent (yeah, yeah, don’t judge!). Some scents (like Costus or Civet) come off that way.. but there isn’t any in this formulation. I guess it’s the spices or wood or just my skin that makes it smell this way. The fragrance didn’t ever settle on my skin, it sort of changed every hour.

This isn’t an easy fragrance to wear and it’s not for all occasions. It’s definitely not boring! but a fascinating fragrance. It lasts for hours (just with a dab behind each ear) and the projection is average.
